More on my Global Experience

Peninsula Hotel Hong Kong in 2006.

I was only 19 years of age when I became a part of E'SPA grand opening team. It was an epic experience to be a part of a huge adventure of E'SPA as well, as this was their big debut partnering with 5 star hotels worldwide. We've gone through 9 weeks of training with the trainers  from UK, I was featured in South China Morning Post and ELLE travels. Some of the Spa therapists are still working at the spa after 19 years, some had moved on, but nonetheless most of us are still in touch and it is an amazing feeling

Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong in 2008.

I was a wild card when I got hired at the spa with Four Seasons Hotel in HK, as the spa was already full team, but I was given a chance to work as On-call Spa Therapist at first and through hard work of being available 12-16 hours everyday, I landed 18 months contract as a full time Spa Therapist, it was a huge moment for me. This spa is still one the best I have not only worked at but been to. If you ever are visiting Hong Kong, book yourself a VIP room with any treatments and request Rosa or Annie for Thai massage.

Elemis Skincare Training Team UK 2011.

And as much as I loved delivering wellness treatments to the guests of the hotel in Hong Kong, I wanted to share my knowledge and become a better Trainer. When I went to Frederique Academy in HK to become a spa professional in 2004, we worked with Elemis skincare and I also had 3 months internship with them right after school at their  location  in HK, I absolutely fell in love with their skincare and education team so this was my next destination to embark

BABOR, Aachen Germany 2013

It seems like it was just yesterday that I went to Germany, I was their Regional Manager and this is when I started to travel a lot throughout Europe and Asia. Working for BABOR was a fantastic experience and also, they do have some great products, but I can only say that about the products that were manufactured in Germany.

Comfort Zone Skincare, Parma Italy 2014.

When I was younger, I couldn't stay in one place for too long, quite obviously. But honestly I just wanted to learn as much as I possibly can through meeting new providers, spa owners, leaders and through taking new classes, course, I was driven to become the best version of a Spa Professional, that one could be

Four Seasons Hotel Moscow, Russia 2015.

I remember how I was recruited to assist in opening of the Amnis spa, it is a bit of a soty...I took my mom to Istanbul Turkey for her big five O birthday and few days in, out of blue, I first received an email inviting me to speak with the Spa director then (pictured, Damir) who apparently used to work with E'SPA ( I did too at the Peninsula Hotel in HK) and he also had talked to a Spa director from the Four Seasons Hotel in HK when recruiting an assistant that will help him and apparently my name came up. So we had the skype call with him immediately after I received an email (honestly I thought it was a prank) and then a chatted with their Hotel Manager and a General Manager on the phone, basically I had a different job when I was flying to Istanbul and came back as an Assistant Spa Director for Amnis spa at the Four Seasons Hotel Moscow.  This photo has a story as well, the two beautiful ladies are from Switzerland and a lady in black suite is Dr. Burganer and her brand was one of the line we carried, this was a grand opening evening for the spa, she didn't like that I didn't have any color but black and white, so she offered me her Hermes scarf, which we couldn't figure out how to best wrap around so I ended up looking like a flight attendant ... But what a blast this time was

Q&A

Katerina if you have traveled the worlds and growing up in Hong Kong, does this mean that you speak multiple languages?

-Yes, I speak 3 languages and am planning to learn French or Spanish soon, I am still debating

When did you first become an esthetician?

- I went to school (Frederique Academy) in Hong Kong in 2005 to become an Esthetician and Massage Therapist and I graduated with multiple Diplomas

Do you think there is a difference in education between Hong Kong and USA in specifically this field?

-100% YES! A quick reminder, Hong Kong used to be a UK colony and now it is an independent government, why am I saying that, well it still has a lot of UK influence in education quality, so when I went to Frederique Academy, all of their classes were based on UK and International examination standards, as I received Internationally recognized Diplomas as well as British once as well. Here in the US it is not the same, I too went back to school in Illinois, and learned that there is no standard information that esthetician receive, it depends on the state your in, the requirements for the license, and with that you cannot practice a lot of the treatments that one can perform in Hong Kong as an example. So yes, there is a difference.

Why Holistic practice? Why not Medical side of this business?

-I have done that, the medical practice and I have seen long term effects, this is one of the reasons why I am choosing the path where I can apply my knowledge to do right by my guests and their skin

What is your favorite treatment? You don't list a lot of them, why not?

- I love all of my treatments, this is why I have a limited list of them, they are all to the point. I did not add the "Hydrating Facial" or "Glowing Facial" or "Deep cleanse facial" or many other, because most book an appointment with me as a professional to decide what's good for their skin and to customize the treatment appropriately. It makes life easier for my guests to have a simpler service menu, I wanted to do so because I believe that the true luxury that we have is TIME

Do you teach?

-YES! I do, all of the information is on my school website
